Magenta, as bright as hot pink but with a bit more sophistication, and as stately as violet but with a bit more flair. It’s a hue that packs a punch and will brighten a dull day.

As indicated by the title of this post, the selected theme for this edition of the Magnificent 8 Collaboration is Magenta. Coming on the heels of the popular Barbiecore trend, Pantone selected Viva Magenta 18-750 as its Color of The Year for 2023. On their website, this color is described as “vibrat[ing] with vim and vigor … a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”

Calling it an unconventional shade for an unconventional time, Pantone claims that Viva Magenta is “powerful and empowering … an animated red that revels in pure joy … an electrifying, and a boundless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.” Belonging to the reds on the color spectrum, magenta is fairly balanced being neither warm nor cool and somehow both at the same time. As such, it brilliantly pairs with just about any other color. It can be just as dramatic if worn or applied as an accent or in a bold monochromatic sweep.

Usually, I’m not one to get wrapped up in color trends. In fact, until the Magnificent 8 Collaboration gals settled on Viva Magenta as the theme for this quarter’s installment, I hadn’t given much thought to adding any to my wardrobe. I have a few accessories in shades close to it, like the purse I wore in The Shopping Experience & Link-Up which picks up on the magenta in the pattern of my skirt. It wasn’t until I came across this cardigan that I was convinced to change my mind.

The one hesitation I had in buying it though was the tortoiseshell buttons which read to me as leopard. Don’t get me wrong, I think that magenta and leopard make for a fabulous combination; however, it’s my general preference for buttons to be color matched to the garment. As I was considering whether or not to buy the cardigan, I remembered that I was wearing the loafers you see in these photos and realized that I had the makings of a great look. All I had to do was add a pair of black jeans. Voila, viva magenta!

Time to move on to the Magnificent 8 Collaboration. Working in tandem are 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket ranging from early 20s to early 80s, with the intention of showing that fabulous style has no age restrictions. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. And be sure to check out the other 7 amazing gals! These posts are shared on a quarterly basis … be on the lookout at the end of April for the next post in this series.

The Magnificent 8 Collaboration began in the Summer of 2018 as a quarterly venture and this is its 19th installment. The previous ones were; Life’s A Beach, Distressed, Workout Wear, Spring Pattern Mixing, White Dress, Animal Print, Family Heirloom, Garden Party, Hello Yellow, Pearls, Outside The BoxStatement Pants, Inspired ByInvested In Style, Stick A Pin On It, Secondhand Style, Summer Linen, and most recently Western.

  1. Oh Rena, I love this color on you, too! Magenta seems to be brilliantly beautiful on everyone! And how wonderful that your leopard loafers were so purrfectly coordinated with the sweater buttons. Really adorable outfit, my friend!

  2. That is a fabulous cardigan! I just bought a hot pink/magenta blouse at Christmas time and I find that I am loving that color paired with black this winter. So much so I’ve been checking out other items in the same color family

  3. I think you look fabulous in this color, Rena! I’m with you about buttons, too. They can make or break an item. But, given how you paired them with your loafers, they really work well. Do you remember, back in the day as the kids say, button covers? I would guess Amazon would have something like that if you didn’t want to go to the trouble of buying/sewing on new buttons.

I have a couple pieces of magenta in my closet. It’s weird because I like it, and it likes me. I’m not sure why I don’t have more!

Please come visit for a link party on Friday!

You really suit this bold colour cardigan, and it was fun to match the prints with the shoes as well! I have so many fuchsia and magenta pieces in my wardrobe, it was so hard to pick something for this theme, spoiled for choice as it’s my favourite shade of pink. Or purple. Depending on how you categorise it, haha!
