No other fabric can help you keep your cool on a hot day like linen. Its breathability and versatility are just two of the reasons why adding just a few classic pieces to your summer wardrobe can go a long way toward upping the style power of any outfit.

As indicated by the title of this post, the selected theme for this edition of the Magnificent 8 Collaboration is linen and all the ways it can be worn during summer. Among the other top qualities that make linen so popular are its durability, ease of care, hypoallergenic properties, it’s comfortable and quite suitable to be worn year-round. While it may be thought of as a luxury textile, there is a wide range of affordability with linen clothing.

For me, an additional appeal is the texture and body that the linen fiber lends to the garment. Take for instance the striped top that I’m wearing in these first photos. The fabric is a linen/rayon blend that is light enough to keep me feeling cool on a warm day and yet heavy enough to drape nicely around my body. I bought this top as a lean into the Going Coastal vibe that’s become so popular recently. Linen is a must-have for this aesthetic, not only for clothing but for homewares as well.

In a couple of recent blog posts, I’ve shared other examples of linen blend wardrobe staples that I own. The photo on the left below is from My New Go-To Alternative For Shorts This Summer: Cropped Linen Pants post (no further explanation needed). On the right, the jacket (worn in Going Off-Topic) was a thrift store find made last summer. Someone must have had this Old Navy jacket hanging in her closet for a long time because the date on the label is SP ’07 which makes it nearly a vintage piece.

Let’s move on to the Magnificent 8 Collaboration. It is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from early 20’s to early 80’s. The intent of the collaboration is to show that there are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. And be sure to check out the other 7 amazing gals! We are sharing these posts on a quarterly basis … be on the lookout at the end of October for the next posts in this series.

The Magnificent 8 Collaboration began in the Summer of 2018 as a quarterly venture and this is its 17th installment. The previous ones were; Life’s A Beach, Distressed, Workout Wear, Spring Pattern Mixing, White Dress, Animal Print, Family Heirloom, Garden Party, Hello Yellow, Pearls, Outside The BoxStatement Pants, Inspired ByInvested In Style, Stick A Pin On It, and most recently Secondhand Style.  Have you visited any of the other Magnificent 8 gals yet and seen their spins on the theme of Summer Linen? In case you haven’t, let me help in getting you on your way.

  1. Well, first of all, you look fabulous in this striped top, linen pants, and those sandals!! I love linen and wear it all summer long. I don’t usually wear it in the winter because it’s just too lightweight for Indiana winters. I don’t worry about it wrinkling either. I think that’s part of its charm. The only thing I’m not a fan of are linen tee shirts because they are just the tiniest bit scratchy.

  2. It’s amazing how most people either like it or they don’t. I wonder if there are any other materials (besides fur) that have such a split??
    I love this Rena,

  3. Oh Rena, I love this linen blouse! It looks so cute styled this way, too. What a great outfit! I do like the idea of a linen/rayon blend as I find 100% linen too scratchy for my taste. I also like the drapability the rayon is giving to your beautiful top! This was a great theme for summer time. It is super interesting, like Jodie said, how people are so split in their linen preferences!

  4. I like this linen top on you, it’s beautiful! I find linen blend pieces just a little bit easier to wear over pure linen – they just wrinkle that little bit less, haha! I only have a handful of line pieces in my wardrobe but prints is definitely the way to go – disguises the wrinkles just a bit and doesn’t frustrate me or seem to require as much time ironing to get it to look neat and tidy, haha!

Hope you are having a lovely week 🙂

  5. Rena,
Your linen blouse selection is about as classic as possible for a chic summer look. And your black and white sandals are a perfect compliment to your traditional look.

  6. Looks like you have some great linen pieces! I really like those striped pants and that pretty blouse!

I love the striped top and black trousers, such a stylish outfit! The sandals are fabulous! I was never much of a linen fan due to the creasing but I’m starting to like it lately. Thanks for linking up!

  8. You look fabulous in your linen outfits. I’m a lover of linen in the summer. 100% cotton and pure linen are prefect summer fabrics here in the coastal South. Thank you for participating in Talent-Sharing Tuesdays Link-Up 27.

  9. What a comfortable yet sassy outfit, beautifully put together and styled. That blouse is a good find. I have many linen pieces and despite the creasing element I’ve kept buying them over the years for the reasons you state above and for their plain and simple classiness. And linen pieces don’t seem to date so some go back 20 years, pretty much to when I discovered it.

  10. Love this outfit on you! The striped blouse is quite pretty with the jewelry adding a touch of color. Neat shoes too! I do love linen as here in the South it gets pretty hot in the summer, so I have developed a bit of a collection of linen pieces.
