Flower is probably in the top ten of words associated with Spring so that made florals a perfect choice as the theme for this quarter’s installment of the Magnificent 8 Collaboration. Cleverly, Eugenia referred to it as “our garden theme” so that’s how I came up with the title for this post.

In that vein, I’m imagining this outfit as what I’d be wearing for a Mother’s Day brunch on a lovely patio or terrace. It would be hosted at someone’s home (our daughter did so last year) because we prefer not to deal with the restaurant crowds.

Unsurprisingly, I opted for a brightly hued floral motif. The pattern has a painted effect with a tropical vibe. Like many of my other skirts, this one was also a thrift store find. Matching it with a striped shirt might seem like too much but I think that the two patterns help to create balance in the outfit. The lightweight jacket and comfy, walkable sandals in black pull the look together.

There are a couple of micro trends (at least they should be) that I like to point out as well. The first one is the dimensional layered effect in the design of my shorter necklace.  Both of my necklaces pick up on the garden party theme.  The second micro trend is tying my blouse at the waist.  I don’t like wearing tops fully tucked in and I find it difficult to do a partial tuck with a garment that has a higher waist.  One other detail that I’d like to point out is that there are bees on my top because I’m not above dressing with a bit of irony.

This is the eighth edition of the Magnificent 8 Collaboration. The previous ones were; Life’s A Beach, Distressed, Workout Wear, Spring Pattern Mixing, White Dress, Animal Print, and Family Heirloom.  Have you visited any of the other Magnificent 8 gals yet and seen their spins on the theme of Garden Party? In case you haven’t, let me show you the way.

The Magnificent 8 is a collaboration among 8 stylish women, each in a different age bracket, ranging from early 20’s to early 80’s. The intent of the collaboration is to show that there are no age restrictions on style. So wear what you want, when you want, add a smile, and strut your style with confidence. And be sure to check out the other 7 amazing gals! We are sharing these posts on a quarterly basis … be on the lookout in July for the next post in this series.

I noticed that you had an IG post on print mixing as well as a video. Another example of great minds thinking alike.

  2. Rena, I love this pattern mixing you did here! The stripes are so subtle that I nearly missed it until the close up shots. And the bees on your shirt! Oh my word, too cute. And so perfect for a garden theme. I love this whole outfit!

Thank you, Shelbee. I’ve also paired a tee with ladybugs and a gingham sweater just to amuse myself.

  3. Your way of accessorizing the outfit is genius. The double floral necklaces don’t compete with each other, but together make a bold fashion statement. So cool.
