Just when you thought I might be done with florals for a while, I give one more spin with a mix of tropical and leopard. Perhaps I just hadn’t gotten it all out of my system with all the “May flower” posts from last month.

Would You, Could you? is the theme for the second Saturday of the month. Such is the question one might ask of oneself when happening upon fashion inspirations in magazine articles, store displays, or social media. Or you might find inspiration in an unexpected place like a sunset, or a desert landscape, or a plate of food.  Sometimes it might just be the heap of cast-offs in your closet.

In the case of this ensemble, I don’t really remember my inspiration for it other than wanting to show off the top. The color combination of pink and orange is one that I first came across a few years ago so when I saw this top in a store two years ago, I knew I had to buy it. If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you might be thinking that you’ve seen me wearing this ensemble before and you’d be absolutely correct. It’s the same outfit I was wearing in the photos two weeks ago in A Woman I Know: Victoria.

I think what helps in keeping this pattern mix from looking totally absurd is that the leopard print is a subtle one. The tone-on-tone effect of the light grays and taupes makes these jeans look more like a neutral that compliments the wilder color palette of the top. While the top was a retail purchase, the jeans were a thrift store find. Also thrifted was the denim jacket which tones down the impact of my boldly hued top. Popping up again to finish the look are my white sneakers.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My featured blogger from last week is Hilda, who shares useful tips, helpful advice, and random thoughts on the challenges facing the older woman on her blog Over The Hilda.

What are your feelings about combining a tropical print with a leopard pattern? Too much or just enough? Is this a look you would or could try? And lastly, where do you find your fashion inspirations?

Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

This is a really cool pattern mix, Rena! I would totally wear tropical print with leopard if they coordinated so perfectly as your two prints do. I think any kind of prints that are found in nature go together perfectly…florals and animal prints…why not? Mother Nature doesn’t generally get things wrong and if she can mix these prints in the wild, then we certainly can mix them in our outfits!

Shelbee, didn’t it turn out well? Despite the odd look I got from my husband, I really like the combination.

  2. Leopard is a neutral. And the light color that your pants have make it even more to be a goes with everything. You look great in this outfit and it’s so you. It is definitely a Do.

Nicole, yes yes yes … leopard is a neutral. Thanks for the thumbs-up vote on this look.

I love a bit of pattern mixing so don’t have any problems with leopard and florals. Bring it on! Looking good my friend. Enjoy the rest of the weekend

Jill, isn’t great how well they work together despite there not being any common color between them? I’m glad you like the look.

  4. I love print mixing and there are not many prints together that I don’t like! The denim jacket is the glue that sticks the prints together! Well done!

Nancy, the jacket does help out a lot. And like you, I’m willing to mix together just about any prints and patterns, the more unexpected the better.

  5. I really like the pink and orange together, such a fun print! And your leopard print pants are cute! now it’s colder weather I’ll need to get my leopard print jeans out for a wear!

Thank you for the link up! Hope you are having a lovely weekend 🙂

  7. I’m a big fan of neutral leopard print. I have loads in my wardrobe, and I always veer towards animal print when I’m out shopping. Thanks for hosting the linkup. Jacqui x

Would I or Could I? Are you kidding me?!! I die for such an amazing print mixing style! Nothin- and I mean nothing is better than animal print for me! And when you mis it up like you just did- well that’s unbeatable- love:)

  9. I really like the two prints together, Rena! It’s only in teh past few years where I’ve been experimenting more and more with pattern mixing so I do love to see prints that wouldn’t ordinarily go together. You look fab!

  10. Hey, Rena! Your jeans definitely read as a solid colour, which I agree is why they work so well with the bright tropical of the top, despite them having no colours in common. I usually try to match 1-2 colours when I pattern-mix, which I’ve found is just right. I would totally wear leopard with a tropical print!

Thanks so much for the link-party!
