Closing out April with a review of some recent thrift store finds and a few OOTDs that were shared on Instagram but not featured in a blog post.

One particular visit to a few local area thrift stores early last week netted me some really great finds. Most of the items I’ll be posting on Poshmark which I’ll identify in the photos. The pants I’m wearing in these photos, however, were purchased on Poshmark (I’m a buyer as well as a seller) as a possible contender for yesterday’s Statement Pants: Magnificent 8 Collaboration. I had considered opting to showcase a bold color like orange as my “statement pants” but that was before I decided on another idea. Fine, whatever.

The denim vest was a thrift store find from a few years ago. However, the top and the sandals were retail purchases; after all, not all great finds are secondhand. Was it the peplum hem or the elbow-length puffy sleeves or the ruffle accents of my cottage-core top that won me over? Probably all three as well as the embroidered pattern. My wedge sandals were purchased about a year ago (but still available) and made a previous appearance on the blog last Summer in Would You, Could You? Button Fly White Jeans.

You’ve likely also experienced days when you don’t find much to buy at thrift stores and then there are other days when you come away with armloads of great finds. It was like that for me on the two days that I ventured out to thrift stores this month. Not shown in the photos below were a few “vintage” skirts (probably from the 90s) I found at a local Goodwill. They are more suited for Fall so I won’t be listing them just yet. Some of the items shown below I found at another thrift store on the $2.95 last chance rack.

True to my usual routine, I always check the jackets/blazers and the skirt racks. Only recently have I started to look through dresses as well. First up are the blazers I found (photos above). None of these were from that $2.95 rack but I still got a 25% discount on two of them. All three of the items below were among my bargain finds. The skirt on the left is much more striking in person because what looks like yellow in the photo is actually a neon green.

I did find a couple of $2.95 items to keep for myself such as the striped button-down from GAP (on left below) and the open-front cocoon style cardigan on the right.

The following OOTDs are a good representation of the non-blogged looks from this past month. Thrifted items include the culottes and necklace in the look on the left plus the jacket and leopard pants in the middle look. The dress on the right is the same one shown earlier this month in Fresh Focus: Tie-Dye worn with the same sandals shown in today’s outfit and a lightweight cardigan I’ve had for ages.

And one more OOTD, the outfit I’m wearing in this post. After the photo sesh, The Husband and I (as well as our son, in the foreground of the photo below) headed out to get our second jabs. That was exactly two weeks ago so as of today, we have reached fulfillment 😉. That last one did put me off my game for about 36 hours but worth it for what I’ve gained.

And that puts a wrap on April. What have you found recently while thrift store shopping? What trends/aesthetics are you currently keen on?

Be well and let’s stay in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

  1. Can’t wait to see you wearing the skirt with the neon! And those blazers are a good find too@

    • Nancy, I’ll be selling the skirt. Unfortunately it’s too small for me or I would definitely be rocking it.

    • Thank you, Carrie. It was fun figuring out how to style them.

  2. Oh, you did so well here! I’m glad I don’t resell or I’d be spending double my budget – there are so many great things that I put back. I love the jacket with the fringe, and the skirt with the neon. The colour-blocked skirt is classic 1999!

Your outfits are so cool, Rena! Congrats on your second jab – I am hoping to get booked for my first (sigh, Canada is so behind on this) in the next couple of weeks, all this while we are getting a third wave of cases and variants.

    • Sheila, you are often my secret muse while I’m in a thrift store and it’s encouraged me to branch out in my style.

    • Mireille, I think that’s what I like best about thrifting (besides saving money). That you’re not going to be wearing what everyone else is like you do with fast fashion.

  3. Those pants are so fun and that’s a beautiful top with them! 🙂 I really like your opshop finds too, you definitely got lucky with thrifting!

So exciting that you’re fully vaccinated now – I don’t even have once vaccine yet, with no cases they are in no rush to vaccinate us 🙁 So far it’s looking like late this year maybe even next year!

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup 🙂 Hope that you have a nice weekend ahead of you!

    • Mica, I’m glad that you like the outfit. And while it is great that I’m fully vaccinated, I do admire how well your country has been able to contain the spread of COVID.

I love those orange pants and the whole outfit, Rena! I just received a birthday coupon for 25% off my entire purchase for my favorite thrift shop and I hit it hard the other day! I spent $67 and got 7 men’s button down shirts in amazing colors, 5 dresses, a camo tee shirt, a vintage blouse, and a really unique maxi skirt. Now I must stop shopping and these stores must stop sending me coupons to entice me!
