As I began to write this post early last week, much of the U.S. was newly covered in winter white. Where I live, however, there was a gentle breeze blowing and the sun was shining brightly.

So brightly that I was motivated to try my spin on a celebrity style that had caught my eye. You’ll easily recognize the celebrity but the reason that this look “spoke” to me may not be as obvious. Of course, I’ll explain but take a moment first to look at the photo on the left.

Imagine, if you will, my intrigue when I came across this headline “Jennifer Lopez’s Lofty White Heels Are Reminiscent Of This Popular Footwear Trend” so naturally, I took the bait and clicked. As you can see, those are indeed some extreme platforms she got on. The article goes on to suggest that “this lofty style as a possible heel of choice for the upcoming season” as it had been showcased on the Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture runway.

It is not my intention to disparage Ms Lopez’s style choices. I’m sure it wasn’t a very long walk she was taking to get to her lunch date spot in celebration of Valentine’s Day (as reported in this article). However, I wouldn’t agree with The Zoe Report’s statement that “this exciting footwear trend is a daring way to add some eccentricity into your outfit and step into the imaginative world of couture”.

Eccentricity comes from taking a simple white dress and then rocking a pair of wedge, chunkyish white sneakers with a top that reminds the world that “we were born to be real, not to be perfect.” This is the same top I wore in A Woman I Know: Me. The dress I’m wearing in this post was featured in a Magnificent 8 Collaboration post from July 2019 and had been put into a “to be sold” pile. My sneakers are a new acquisition that I’m over the moon about; so much so, I’ve already bought them in black.

Dare I say, these sneakers are a dream to wear. If you’re looking for a fashion athletic shoe that has a smidgeon of a heel, you should give these a try. As for my “designer bag”, I’ve got a reusable tote that I purchased at a local buy/trade/sell store. This bag came in handy as The Husband and I had a chance to pop into a couple of thrift stores once the photos had been taken. I’ll be sharing a few of the items I bought that day as well as another recent visit to thrift stores in an upcoming post.

I’ve shared before that half the fun of putting together outfits for posts is the reaction I get from The Husband. This time around, his first comment was “hey nurse, when am I gonna get my sponge bath?” LOL But that got me thinking about how the typical nurse’s uniform has changed over time and the association of an all-white outfit with that profession. Is it a universal thing or has it become a generational one? I’d love to hear your opinion on this.

Finishing out my outfit is a multi-strand necklace I found on clearance at a major department store, a faux gemstone bracelet that I’ve had for several years, and my white interchangeable watchband. And of course, a mask. Oh, would you look at the time? I hope we still have time for a bit of shopping.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My featured blogger from last week is Daenel, the multi-talented blogger at Living Outside The Stacks. She describes her style as very boho but with a thing for bling which I’m totally on board for.

For me, winter white mostly refers to a styling choice and not snow. Let’s not get into a discussion about not wearing white between Labor Day and Easter; that rule does not play with this gal. How about you? Have you been embracing winter white? Or are you digging out from under it?

Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

  1. I so loved your idea about winter white and tried to find anywhere that I had done something like that, but to no avail. Decades ago, I had a pair of winter white trousers that I loved. I think winter white is just really the natural color of white sheep fiber before it’s bleached so I have a lot of pieces in that as winter accessories. Living where we do, wear plenty of those.

As far as J-Lo’s platforms-she probably walked from the limo to the door of the restaurant! I’m about a 1.2″ platform lady now, unless they are sneakers. I love the triple walls that Keds are coming out with now. Like you, I’m in love with a cool pair of sneakers.

So, alas, I had to link up with last Monday’s post-but at least I have a white shirt.

Your Saturday post is starting to become part of my Saturday breakfast! LOL

    Take care, Terri

Finding white garments isn’t as easy as one might think. I’m very picky in that I like them to be quite opaque which can be hard to find, especially in pants. Darker colors are much more forgiving.

I do like your quirky winter white outfit! Very cool. You’ve reminded me to get my white trainers out.

    • Rena

I always think that white trainers are a style must plus they seem to be trending for Spring/Summer.

  3. You look stunning in white and really pull the look and color off. It’s amazing. It’s so much harder in winter than summer. Great styling.

    • Rena

Thank you, Nicole. Finding white pieces isn’t always easy, especially ones suitable for colder winter weather.

  4. I’m covered in white too with my last photo, lol. You look good in anything with that gorgeous hair!

  5. Fabulous post! I never where all white, because it doesn’t look that great in me, but I certainly don’t allow any rules to dictate when I will wear white and when I don’t. 😝 I’ve been rocking the white Jeggings this winter.

Typically, I tend to go for darker colors nowadays since my hair has gotten lighter. But once in a while, I like to try something unexpected.

Rena, what a cool outfit! I love the pairing of the ivory lace dress with sneakers and your cool graffiti button down! And as lovely as Ms. Lopez’s outfit is including her very high heels, I do believe that I would be much more comfortable in your version of this outfit as well! I had to laugh at your husband’s comment because it is similar to the comments that Jeff makes to me! But hey, after all these years of marriage, I am happy he still looks at me that way!

Thank you, Shelbee. Men are really not that hard to understand, are they? 😉 And one of my first thoughts, as I looked at J-Lo’s photo, was “she’s not going to be walking very far in those”.

  7. I’ve seen that “flatforms” are a thing (again) for spring, but I’ve done those massive platforms and they can be dangerous – it’s easy to turn your ankle in them. I like your sneaker version of the trend, and love this all-white look, Rena.

Thanks so much for the link-party! I’m not much of a white-clothes person – I like white in small doses – but I certainly don’t follow that old rule!

    • Rena

Sheila, we are of the same mind when it comes to massive platforms, no matter the net heel height. I don’t typically wear as much white now because my hair is so much lighter than it used to be. But, for the blog, I willing to try just about anything once.

    • Rena

One of the challenges with white garments is keeping them from getting dingy.

  8. You look great in all white Rena! I would get an outfit like that dirty in under five minutes! The “designer bag” is fab…who needs to spends big bucks on the latest “it” bag? Those shoes JLo is wearing are making my bunions throb just looking at them…I much prefer your trainers!

My bag choice was a bit whimsical. And you’re so right about those sky-high heels … all I saw was pain, not style.

  9. I’ve heard a lot of women talk about the nurse thing with white shoes….it cracks me up. I don’t think of that at all!!! I always love an all white look and this one is fabulous.

When was the last time you saw a nurse wearing the typical white dress and shoes? Except, of course, it’s a naughty Halloween costume 😉

  10. Such an amazing outfit with curls. I really liked the color of your hair with all white dress. Enjoying while readying whole page. Thanks for sharing!

  11. What a fun outfit! I much prefer your look than that of J.Los. Sure those heels look great but to be honest, I just scared of them. I know we all have different taste and for me, comfort is key and your outfit is that. White is such a beautiful color. Always so refreshing and classic!

Thank you, Maureen. You and I seem to be in agreement on the importance of comfort in footwear.
