Presented for your approval, camo joggers. Have you ever seen a garment or an outfit and asked yourself “would I ever wear that?” and then thought “how could I put a look together?”

Fashion inspirations can come from expected sources like a magazine, a store display, or social media. They can also be found in unexpected places like a sunset, or desert landscape, or a plate of food.  Sometimes it might just be the heap of cast-offs in your closet. In the case of this ensemble, my inspiration was a retailer’s advertisement. But the question of “would I, could I” preceded receipt of said advertisement.

There I was one fine day a few weeks ago, strolling through a store that I’m known to frequent when I spied a rack of items in various colors including camo. For clarification, this store was not the one that sent the advertisement with the outfit inspo. The items on that rack turned out to be chino type joggers which also came blue and gray. My initial hesitation had nothing to do with the camo pattern but with the overall jogger style itself. Fitting rooms were mostly still closed in my area and were so in this store. As such, some purchases can be a gamble (not moneywise though as returns are easy to do). After some consideration, I decided to give them a try but now I had to settle on a color.

While I did like camo pattern, I hesitated on that bolder choice and bought them in the gray (see them in In Pursuit Of A Perfect Wardrobe: 7 Pitfalls To Avoid). After trying the gray ones on once I got home and liking how they fit, regrets over not getting the joggers in camo started to set in. Then the advertisement came in the next day’s mail. What’s a gal to do?

Go back and buy them, of course. Do the side by side photos above remind you of Celeste Barber’s Instagram account? Just a little bit, maybe? I wasn’t able to replicate the pose as well as I had wanted to but it’s the effort that counts, right? 😂

Black mules – similar look

Deviations from the inspo look include opting for a poet style blouse in ivory instead of an olive camp shirt. I’d originally planned to pair the joggers with an eyelet top but it seemed a little too summery. Another consideration I didn’t go with was a pair of block-heel open-toed animal print mules and decided to stay with my lower heeled black ones instead. There’s always another time and a dozen or so more ways that I’ll be wearing these camo joggers.

Speaking of which if you’re at all interested in a bit of the history of the camouflage pattern (as well as a few odd facts), you’ll want to read A Fashion History of Camouflage, 7 Ways to Wear It over at Shelbee On The Edge. As the title indicates, along with the history lesson, there are styling ideas for camo from seven different bloggers as well as several by Shelbee herself.

One last thing. You may have noticed that I’ve updated my profile picture. And yes, the image was selected from one of the photos taken for this post. I hadn’t planned it in advance but I’m glad to have such a talented photographer who can make me look good.

Now, back to the question at the top … would you, could you wear camo joggers?

Be well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

  1. I have grown to love camo more and more. I’m sure part of it is seeing it so much all over. I’m still twisting Lesley’s arm and of course my mom purged her one piece. But I will prevail to get the three of us styling it again!! Maybe!!
Love the dichotomy of this outfit Rena!!

Rena, thanks so much for the shout out to my camo history post! I am loving all the camo styles that are circulating right now. I feel like camo is having a huge moment in fashion right now. These joggers look so good on you. I love the shoe choice and the poet blouse for a bit of feminine edge to this masculine print. These photos are fantastic, too. I love the new profile picture!
