This series, Last Week This Week, started as a Monday thru Friday look back at what I’d worn to work in the past week (click here to see the first one). With that part of my life now over (see Drum Roll, Please), these posts had expanded to cover Sunday thru Saturday, something like a diary. However, retirement plans have not gone as originally planned due to COVID-19 and social distancing so there’s not been much to report on. As such, I’ve found myself facing the dilemma of how to adapt the format of these posts to current circumstances.

With days seeming to roll on endlessly, the specifics of a week no longer define time for me. While I’m not one to lounge about in my PJs all day, my daily outfits are primarily a rotation of jeans and easy wear tops. Or a variation of workout attire that does not need to be photographed. Feeling obligated to continuing this weekly posting, I made attempts to record my OOTDs last month but succeded only about 1/3 of the time as evidenced in the following photo galleries. No reason not to share what I got.

Moving on regarding my dilemma. Without a full week of daily photos, I found myself procrastinating on composing the corresponding LWTW post. Didn’t seem like I had much to report on regarding what I’d done either. Rather than skip a week, I thought then to cover two weeks in one post and then get back on track. Then that post didn’t get finished. And another week went by.

So now I’m at about the same point I was with my last LWTW post, Last Week(s), This Week: Obstacles, May 3-30. A whole month has gone by without this weekly post. Is that important to anyone other than me? After all, I’m the head honcho around here so I can do whatever I want. But what should that be?

Recognizing this dilemma as another self-imposed blogging obstacle, I’ve been wrestling on how to adapt the format to current circumstances. But there were a couple of thoughts that kept running through my mind. If I was uninspired to write up about my week, how could what I wrote would be worth the time to read? What other format could I come up with that would be like an evolution of the original? And then I wondered, was I just getting in my own way again?

In an “aha” moment, like a light bulb clicking on over my head, I realized that I didn’t need to do anything. That the LWTW series could simply be retired. The format doesn’t work (pun intended) for me anymore and without it, my blogging schedule would be freed up for more topic-specific posts. No more dilemma, decision made. It’s time to move forward. Ideas are flowing.

In a month of what seemed like unending days, there were some bright spots. Like an intimate Father’s Day celebration brunch on the terrace with our children, two sales on Poshmark, and a new ride. So far, it’s been driven less than 200 miles. Oh well, it looks good in the garage.

  1. I’m glad you’re back! I had just discovered you, and then you disappeared! I am also retired (for eight years now) so it’s always nice to read the adventures of others. This Covid business is so draining, isn’t it? I have to admit I spent the first several weeks not even getting out of my pjs. The one thing even a little bit positive is my decision to embrace my hair. It’s been grey for years, but I always felt compelled to “do it”. Not anymore, Welcome back, and I hope to see you often!

  2. I have been checking very week for a post so looking forward to the new topics you plan to share! My travel post have turned into bike posts since that is what we have been doing but we are going on a little vacation to the smoky mountains so I will have a little new material to share!
