If you like bold choices, then you’re in luck because orange is having a moment. Combining the energy of red and the happiness of yellow, orange typically gives off vibes of health, youthfulness, and passion. Depending on the situation, this hue is also used to convey aggression, warning, and distrust. Orange is one of those things that falls into the “love it/hate it” realm of preferences.

Well tolerated in small doses, a pop of orange can be a lovely accent. As the featured color, it can be a bit shocking. And then there is the decision about what to pair with it. Darker tones blended with browns and reds are reminiscent of autumn. Brighter versions with pinks and yellow bring to mind the sunnier days of Spring and Summer.

Then there’s the option of making an even bolder choice. While it’s not a novel idea, however, the pairing of orange with a color like magenta may not be for the faint of heart. But why stop there? Go ahead, add some green and some gold.

With the theme of the post being Reclaim-Recycle-Reuse, I’d be remiss if I didn’t share that my jacket was a thrift store find.  I did need to make a few modifications, though.  First, there are pockets high up in the front which I would normally avoid but these are set-in ones so not very visible.  Except, they gaped and didn’t lie flat.  Since pockets in that location have no real functional use (at least for me), I solved the problem by sewing them shut. The second issue was that seed beads that can be seen in the photo below were also oddly placed on the front.  Those were easy to remove.

As I’ve gotten older, my coloring has gotten paler. With silver hair and little time spent in the sun, muted colors tend to make me look washed out. As much as I adore those tones, I’ve been trying to add bolder colors to my wardrobe to brighten things up. Second-hand, recycled fashion has been a great and inexpensive way for me to test the waters as to which ones work the best.

Orange represents fire and the sun and is thought to help stimulate the brain, appetite, and mental activity. It conveys a youthful energy, vitality, and joy. So why does it generally rank lowest as a favorite color? Where to you fall on the spectrum … team-love, team-hate, or somewhere in the middle?

Be well and let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Rena, I love orange and turn to it often, but I can see why some people hate it. It think your color combo is awesome. Once in a while we just need to go bold and try something different. That jacket is really cute and you can’t beat thrift store finds, because even if you get it home and decide to throw it out you didn’t spend a lot of money. Hope you are having a lovely weekend. – Amy

  2. Your jacket is amazing. I would were it with magenta, too! I’m really needing to add more color near my face since I’m letting my hair go grey.

Thank you. It’s quite a change from the more muted colors I used to wear.
