Much of last week was spent tying up loose ends at work. Some days, there were what seemed like a marathon of Teams meetings. That, and the weather, meant that I spent a whole lot of time on my laptop and sitting at my home-based workspace.

This series, Last Week This Week, started as a Monday thru Friday look back at what I’d worn to work in the past week. With that part of my life soon ending, these posts have expanded to a full Sunday thru Saturday chronicling the week, something like a diary. As such, for each day there is a brief description of my outfit or the photo as well as a detail or two about what happened.

Then came Saturday when all that momentum changed course and I found myself feeling like I was at loose ends. Let’s walk through the week.

Sunday

I spent most of the day tackling some closet reorganization and weeding out some of my career-oriented clothing. Most of the reorganizing was related to footwear. Tall boots were moved up to higher, less accessible shelves. My higher heeled career type shoes were placed to the rear of the closet and more casual as well as summery shoes are now easily viewed and within reach. No special OOTD so this photo taken after sunset of one of the channel islands is my substitute.

Monday

This jacket is the same one as seen in this past Saturday’s post, Would You, Could You? Tie-Dye & Stripes. It’s perfect for mixing with all sorts of patterns. One day, I might even try to wear it with solid colors.

Tuesday

With several video meetings on my calendar, I tried a creative knot on my scarf as that was about all that would be seen on screen. Planning for these OOTD photos motivated me to make it a complete outfit, right down to the shoes.

Wednesday

This is an outfit I might have worn on a casual Friday but WFH on a Wednesday isn’t too far off.

Thursday

It rained most of the day and again there were several meetings on my calendar so I didn’t have time for had become my usual daily walk. In fact, I was so busy that it was quite late in the day that I realized I hadn’t taken my OOTD photos. It was so late that I had already gotten ready for bed. Oh well, but I do have an image captured from the last staff meeting where my team essentially said farewell to me. We all “dressed up” for the occasion.  One of my colleagues had started this trend the previous week and the rest of the staff started to join in on the fun.

Friday

My last day of work had finally arrived and it was just as busy as the previous days.  I pulled a few items from my closet that I hadn’t worn in a long time.  Several more meetings including one with senior management where again I received a lot of farewell wishes as well as a promise of an in-person celebration in the future.  The focus of wrapping up the last of the loose ends helped to keep me distracted until it came time for me to sign off for the day.  My employer uses a Single Sign-On (SSO) system of cybersecurity. After 11:59pm that night it would be deactivated and  I would be cut off from the collective (yes, that’s a Star Trek reference).  The thought of that stirred up a lot of unexpected emotions that evening after signing off for the last time.

Saturday

Still feeling a bit at loose ends, I decided to bake banana bread as one might when they have time on their hands and a few very ripe bananas. I found the recipe at kitchn and easily made it non-dairy by using vegan margarine and soy milk.  Our daughter has a milk protein allergy so I typically bake dairy-free.  I added walnuts and non-dairy mini chocolate chips because that’s how I roll. The bread got a thumbs up from both of my guys. No OOTD photos, just the bread. After, The Husband and I went out for a bike ride in the afternoon.

And there you have it, a look back on what I wore and/or did last week.  What’s your weekly routine? How do you decide what you’ll wear every day?  No matter the other circumstances in life, it’s important to let your personal style shine in all that you’re doing or where that may happen.

The feeling of being at loose ends stuck around for most of Saturday and into Sunday.  As much as I’d been looking forward to retiring, doing so during COVID-19 is making the experience much different than I’d expected.  Even so, it’s all good.  And to end on a note of levity, below is a captured image of what I wore to Tuesday’s staff meeting.
