The current status of my fitness journey is a tale as old as time … what started with great enthusiasm and determination has waned a bit. Or should I say quite a bit?

Forward progress has more or less stalled in the last few months. So much so that I took advantage of the coincidental timing for the month 4 progress report post and the 21st of October opting to the two into one in 21 In ’21: Fitness Tips & Tricks. I had good intentions to “get back into the game” post-Halloween which didn’t materialize and then there was Thanksgiving and Hanukkah. And I was working again which really messes with my head even though it’s part-time and I’m in the comfort of my own home.

Progress has stalled because my efforts have stalled. At best, exercising has been sporadic for which I have little excuse. I’ve not been diligent with maintaining my food log and my water consumption hasn’t been as consistent as it should be. There’s been a bit of weight creep but I do still weigh less now than I did at the end of 2020 so I take that as a small win. My clothes are still fitting looser and I continue to rediscover a few favs that had gotten a bit too snug in the past couple of years.

I’m viewing today’s post more as more of a palette cleanser than anything else. If there is one lesson I’ve learned lately it is that I need to get out of my own way. Whether it’s a physical or a psychological barrier, I need to deal with it and move on. In the case of my fitness journey, I’d set myself up to report on my progress, and if there is no progress, what am I to report on? Do I ignore/skip that monthly blog post? Or better yet, do I clear the table metaphorically by reporting on the current state and moving forward from there? I think I’ll go with that.

So I’m regrouping, mentally at least. I’m going to get back into the practice of regular exercising; however, I’ll be mixing things up. My gym now offers an evening yoga class that I’ll give a try. I’m also going to add in a couple of treadmill sessions each week since there is no challenging terrain in the area where I live. While there are some wonderful hilly hiking trails within a short drive, I don’t have a buddy to go with so a treadmill simulation will have to suffice for now.

Once again with so little progress to report on, I’m not going to include a stats update or side-by-side photos in this status update. I’ll get back to those next month. Although I can offer an opportunity to see side-by-side photos from a year ago. This outfit in today’s post is the same as the one I wore in 2020: The Year That Was (And Wasn’t). Since I’ve already shared my end of the year for 2021 in 21 in ’21: Looking Back On The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly of 2021, I’ll just be moving forward from here.

That’s my fitness journey status report for months 5 and 6. This post is part of a recurring series published at about this point each month as I track my progress for becoming fitter and losing weight. Do you have any helpful tips you can share or resources that you’ve used in your own fitness journey?

One last thing, I’ll be rolling out a few changes to the blog in the new year and the first one will be shared tomorrow. I hope you all have a sparkling New Year’s Eve and that 2022 brings you good health, joy, and prosperity.

Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

  1. This whole weight loss thing is such a drag on my psyche! I actually lost 25 pounds last year! After Christmas, with news of the vaccines and the world opening up, my anxiety levels skyrocketed and I gained every one of those little suckers back with emotional eating. And, now, I’m so upset with myself! But, back on the fitness train I’m getting. I like myself thinner…I’m healthier emotionally and physically! So good luck with your journey! I’m right there with you in spirit!

I love the phrase “needing to get out of your own way.” I make any number of excuses to myself as to why I can’t do things. Good luck with resuming your fitness journey. The evening yoga class sounds a great thing to do. I always position yoga to myself as a special treat , just for me. Thanks for linking.

I’m often torn between wanting to take action and yet feeling like maybe I should just accept myself as I am. Clear out all the clothes that don’t fit and likely never will.

  2. Great post, Rena! You really can see the difference in the side by side photos. But you look fabulous in both pictures! I have totally slacked off my yoga routine…but only during the month of December. I was diligently doing yoga almost daily all year long and in December I think I got in 3 sessions total. But the kids go back to school on Monday and I am getting back to my healthy living. I am doing a 7 day cleanse starting on Jan. 10 to kick off some new and better eating habits as well. I have been gorging myself on holiday sweet treats since Memorial Day! Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year, my friend!

Each day brings another opportunity to get started, at least that’s what I tell myself every morning.

  3. Good luck with your fitness journey, I’m on one too! Back into a class today and vowing to tone up rather than lose weight, which I succeed at but then put weight back on! Xx Jacqui

  4. Hi Rena!
Best wishes on your fitness journey! I have always lifted weights, enjoy sports etc and just feel so much better after doing so. I am working on endurance and heavier weights, but hope to take a water aerobics class. It sounds like you have goals in mind and the evening yoga class sounds great, I bet you could get some restful sleep after that!

Thank you for your good wishes, Jess. Regular exercise is a powerful tool to maintaining good health.

  5. You can see the difference between the two photos, so way to go! Still a win. To me there is nothing worse than a change in routine to wreck exercise goals. The extra activities during the holidays combined with a new part time job would definitely make keeping an exercise routine far more difficult. But it sounds like you’re ready to create a new routine. It’s all good.

    Very pretty outfit, btw!

I know what you mean, my new years resolution is to tone up – hope I will lose some weight too. Well done and good luck. Jacqui x
