Opting not to put forth a list of resolutions/challenges/goals for myself the number of which would coincide with the year as I’ve done in the past, I’ve decided on a different spin for 2021. One that will serve others as it might serve me as well.

In a nutshell, I will be publishing a post on the 21st of each month that lists 21 of my top recommendations/ favorites/ideas as they relate to that month’s topic. To kick off the series, the topic for January is blogs. Those that I suggest you sample and see if they ring your bell as they do mine.

Limiting the list to 21 might seem restrictive (and I might sneak in a couple extra) but think of it as an ice-breaker exercise. Or an elevator pitch as to why someone should even consider reading a blog, any blog at all, much less follow one. The blogs I’ve chosen cover a number of interests and are not limited to only one specific niche.

The first two groups of blogs are primarily fashion/beauty-related ones generally geared towards women in midlife and older. At the top of the list are five by women I’ve met in person so they hold a special place in my heart;

Shelbee On The Edge “Rediscover Your Edge”
Jodie’s Touch Of Style “It’s Never Too Late to Look Great”
Not Dead Yet Style “How to be authentic and beautiful in our middle years”
Fabulesley “one stop shop for how to live your life fabulously”
Catherine Grace O “Mastering modern midlife”

The voices and focuses of this next set of eight fashion/beauty related blogs are unique, as are each of their creators.  After following nearly all of them since the early days of my blog, I’ve learned much about the craft of blogging through their examples.

High Latitude Style “Fashion, Life and Science at the Last Frontier”
Nancy’s Fashion Style “Because clothes don’t look good on a hanger”
Elegantly Dressed And Stylish “helping ladies to feel good about what they wear”
Jo-Lynne Shane “Everyday style for the modern woman”
Atypical 60 “A Typical Blog. A Typical Woman. A Typical Take On Life. With An Atypical Twist!”
Sarah’s Real Life “A personal style blog featuring real things I wear and do and the occasional photo of my cat.”
Ephemera “For the fashionably inclined”
Fake Fabulous “Slower fashion & honest beauty”

Speaking about the craft of blogging, I’d suggest checking out the following blog if you’re looking for pointers and how-to’s. I had been acquainted with its author (friend of a friend) prior to either of us becoming bloggers so I know that there is a real person behind all the techno info.

Mostly Blogging “Practical solutions and established strategies to improve your blog.”

This next blog is on my list for no special reason other than the posts are quick reads and I like how the author writes.

From The Laundry Room “Sorting it out one load at a time”

I used to clip recipes from magazines but nowadays, online searches are my primary source for them. Of the recipes I’ve bookmarked and made recently, a majority of them are from these three food blogs;

Grandbaby Cakes “vintage recipes, fresh twists, soulful memories”
iowa girls eats “delicious and approachable gluten-free recipes”
Feasting At Home “seasonal, globally-inspired, veggie-driven recipes”

Last but not least, and rounding out the list of 21 blogs to discover, are crocheting blogs since I’ve found them to be great resources for patterns and project ideas.

Make & Do Crew “modern crochet”
Morale Fiber “Until morale improves, the crocheting will continue.”
Mama In A Stitch “easy & timeless knit and crochet projects and patterns”

If you been counting, that’s 21. However, there are a few more blogs that I want to include. These blogs belong to the women who are part of the multi-generational group I join forces with as part of our quarterly Magnificent-8 Collaboration. Two of the blogs are already listed above. The others are Graceful Rags, Glass Of Glam, Away From The Blue, and Age Of Grace.

Please do consider the blogs listed in this post as just a small sampling of the so many great blogs put out by talented, creative people. For some, their blog is their livelihood and for others, it’s a labor of love. In no way are the blogs included in this post an exhaustive list of blogs that I think are worthy of following. But if someone passing me on the street (wearing a mask and standing 6 feet away, of course) were to ask which blogs I’d recommend that they should check out, the ones I’ve mentioned would likely be the ones that initially would come to my mind.

My profound apologies to anyone who might feel slighted that their blog was not mentioned.  Often, I’ve found myself feeling like an outsider when discovering that my blog hasn’t been included on a “best of blogs” list. I do my best to support other’s blogs by subscribing to them, leaving comments on their posts, and following their social media accounts. These simple actions, done consistently, have as much of an impact on the success of another’s blog as any self-promoting they do themselves.

Of course, my elevator pitch on blogs to follow would include my own. If, of course, they are a fun and fabulous woman looking for fashion/beauty inspiration geared towards women in midlife and older? Have you given any thoughts as to which blogs you would recommend and why? And, one last question … how are you doing now that 21 days have already passed in this new year?

Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
