Continuing with the theme of “reset” (see my last LWTW post for insight on that), I’m declaring a reset on my weekly link-up and the rotating themes that are assigned to each Saturday. But wait you’re saying to yourself, today isn’t Saturday. Ya, well, better late than never, right?

When I first started hosting a link-up, I called it “Powers The Flower” (as in “whatever powers the flower”) since I have a lot of florals in my wardrobe. It was about three years ago that I decided to switch the link-up to Saturdays and established a rotation of themes depending on the week. I’m not sure if or how well this approach resonates with my readers or the bloggers who join the link-up but I like so I’m sticking with it. In honor of the initial link-up theme, florals will continue to be showcased in week one and so I present “Rebel Heart”.

“Why can’t you be like the other girls?
I said, ‘Oh no, that’s not me
And I don’t think that it’ll ever be” – Rebel Heart, Madonna

If you were to ask anyone who knows me for three adjectives that describe me, I truly doubt that anyone of them would include rebel or rebellious in their three. I’m rarely outwardly rebellious and more likely to be described as a “goody two-shoes”.  Fashion-wise though, I like to think that I mostly march to my own drummer. My mother certainly thought that I did and we often had opposing opinions on what I wore.

My mother was always well-groomed and appropriately dressed for the occasion but I wouldn’t describe her style as innovative.  The rules and norms that she followed were from another era.  As for my rebel heart ensemble, she would have fussed about how my shirt showing from underneath my jacket in the back and she wouldn’t have understood the frayed bottom edges of my jeans.

How To Act Like A Rebel

Put your own spin on the rules or on common behavior.
Speak your mind, especially when others are afraid to.
Do what you want to do, not what people expect from you.
Dress outrageously.
Shrug off people’s negative opinions about you.
Stand up for your beliefs and for people who share them.

I can’t even imagine what my mother might have said about my hair. She was a “red-head” until her late 70’s when with my father’s urging, she embraced her silver hair. Perhaps she might have been supportive of me embracing my own silver hair (anything is possible) even though she didn’t like the curls. I learned to shrug off those opinions of my wardrobe and hair years ago.

Back on the topic of florals, are you on team “love them” or on team “leave them”? I think that my graphic t-shirt and embellished jeans are great examples of modern and contemporary ways to incorporate floral patterns as an accent in an outfit. And why stop at one when two will do?

And I’d be totally remiss if I didn’t talk about these mules. I’ve been lukewarm, to say the least, about this style in general primarily because I hadn’t found a pair that fit my foot well.  I have flat feet and very low arches so lower heel versions (think open back loafer) often gaped on the sides and my feet slide around in them. With their slimmer fit and slightly higher heel (but still very comfortable), these beauties are one of my new favorites for Fall. I’m planning to get them in black croc, too.

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. Typically here is where I would feature a blogger who had shared a post in the previous link-up. But since my last one was year ago, I’ll be starting that practice with the next link-up post.

In closing, I’ll just ask … are you the outwardly rebellious type or do you rebel in more subtle ways?

Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget to add a post or two to the link-up.

This is an insanely cute outfit, Rena! A little rebellious and so utterly cool. You know I don’t adhere to many rules at all when it comes to just about most things in life! So of course, I love the message of this post as much as I love the outfit!

Screw the rules … following your own is best. I’m glad that you liked the look.
