Last week, I found myself up to my neck in hot water. Honestly, it’s happened many times before but on this occasion, the whole experience was by far the best it’s ever been.

Don’t get me wrong, those previous times were good but this last go-around was next level. What made it so much better you might be wondering and I tell you. All it took was clearing out a blockage. What? That’s right, sometimes you simply need to find what’s blocking you and clear it out. Or in my case, report the issue to The Husband because you still leave those types of household tasks to him.

Ok, if I’ve got you a bit confused, I’ll start on my hot water tale again. Before living where we do now, I’d always longed for a bathtub in our primary suite. I was over the moon with glee in discovering that the new place we were thinking of buying (our current home) indeed had a lovely soaking tub in the primary bathroom. Deep enough, that quite literally, I could be up to my neck in hot water.

The water flow from the tub’s spigot was surprisingly strong. It was a bit loud as well and as it came out, the water spray reminded me a bit of a firehose. Not exactly a soft, tranquil lead-up for a luxurious soak but the tub would fill in about 15 minutes or so. Nevertheless, I’d light a candle, tune into the Spa Channel, and enjoy my bath.

Then there was a time a couple of years ago when the flow of water from the spigot changed noticeably and that had a profound effect on the overall level of pleasure I got from a bath. It would take 20-25 minutes to fill the tub and the need to constantly monitor that progress became something of an obstacle to my enjoyment. I found my enthusiasm for baths beginning to wane and I was taking them less frequently. Fewer than a handful of times in the interim.

Fast forward to about a month ago and I got the urge to give it a go. It’d been quite a while since my last time and now the water flow from the spigot was at about a sputter with the faucet fully open. At my request, The Husband came to check as the tub was filling. He said that there was likely some sentiment trapped in the screen and that he could see about clearing it another time. It took about 45 minutes for the water to get to a somewhat acceptable level but one that didn’t quite reach my shoulders. Hardly worth the bother.

A few days later, The Husband informed me that the sentiment build-up in the spigot screen was indeed quite thick. It had been cleared and the water flow was now much improved. While I was very pleased with this news, I was still a bit skeptical as to how much improvement there could be. Was the “fill time” at the previous “20-25 minute” rate or back to the original “15 minute or so” rate? Either would be an obvious improvement but could I hope for more?

It was last week when I found myself in a mood to take a bath that I finally got my answer. I opened the faucets and it was glorious! The water flowed better than it ever had with much less sputter and more quietly. The water was flowing so quickly that I waited to retrieve my iPad from the kitchen for fear that the tub would overfill while I was gone. And yes, I know that there’s an overflow outlet but you get the picture. Once the tub was filled, I tracked down my iPad as well as The Husband to give him a big kiss and to thank him profusely.

Without a doubt, it was the best “up to my neck in hot water” experience I’d ever had. I’m looking forward to the next.

  1. Isn’t it wonderful when your husband doubles as your handy man? I’m not sure if there’s anything Mike couldn’t do if he set his mind to it. Convincing him his mind needs to be set is a whole different ball game! I’m glad your water is back to the way you like it! Thanks for the link party!

  4. We have a giant whirlpool tub in our bathroom but I haven’t used it since my boys were little; I did, however, enjoy a nice long soak in the hot tub at our vacation rental after a long day of hiking just this past weekend.

I enjoy being up to my neck in hot water! I don’t do it as often as I would like, the tub is very big and uses up all the hot water. But I try to soak once ir twice a month. Thanks for the link-up!

  6. Love it that you got the water pressure just right, after the sediment build up. We have a tub, and I enjoy a bath each morning. It really is a great way to unwind. I multitask, and brush my teeth and use the waterpick while the water is running. Glad you got to enjoy it! Love the floral with the blazer, its a great print.

  8. So glad it was fixed. We have terrible water pressure at our place, but I don’t think it’s for the same reason.
