Our lives are often viewed as a kaleidoscope of colors that continually change in shape and pattern. And while the fashion and style choices we make also change over time, it is the colors that are often most memorable.

Would You, Could you? is the guiding theme for my posts that are published on the second link-up post of the month which now publishes on Mondays. Such is the question one might ask of oneself when happening upon fashion inspirations in magazine articles, store displays, or social media. Or you might find inspiration in an unexpected place like a sunset, or a desert landscape, or a plate of food.  Sometimes it might just be the heap of cast-offs in your closet. In the case of today’s kaleidoscope of colors ensemble, it was the decor at a Thai that served as my initial inspiration. I’d notice a color combination that I’m quite fond of which brought to mind the Color My World: Loden And Teal post I’d done back in 2017.

In that post, I’m wearing this same cardigan with a different pair of pants and the look was one had worn to work. The trousers in that previous outfit had been a thrift store find (which have since moved on to a new owner) as are the ones in these photos. The cardigan is one of a couple of dozen that I used to wear in rotation as the completer piece for my work outfits. I haven’t worn any of them much since retiring so I’m considering a big purge in this part of my wardrobe. I know that the popularity of sweater sets seems to be having a resurgence but mine were worn mostly with camisoles which is a look that I’m not into much these days.

Since it’s winter in the northern hemisphere and while this cardigan is fine for layering, I realized that I would need to add a jacket to make the outfit seasonally appropriate. Quilted outerwear has been trending this past season and I liked the idea of bringing in another color so I opted for my pumpkin-hued one. Next was to decide on footwear and the idea of my yellow sneakers popped into my head. From there, the concept for this look morphed towards a kaleidoscope of colors which led to me picking my bright pink mini-crossbody purse and purple watchband.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link-up. My featured blogger from last week’s link-up post is Imogen, the image consultant who shares so much of her wonderfully insightful styling advice on her blog Inside Out Style. She’s sporting her own kaleidoscope of colors with this cheerful mix of patterns.

Have I successfully inspired you to bring a kaleidoscope of color into your style? Is this a look you would or could try? How have you embraced styles that are unexpected? Where do you find your fashion inspirations? Do share your thoughts in a comment.

Stay well and let’s keep in touch! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, pin … all options are available. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Mireille, I’m glad that you like the outfit. It was a fun look to put together.

  1. Hello on this Monday-I have always loved blue and orange together. Color must be the watchword this week because the latest SIA is all about color. I don’t do a lot of color but do have some very colorful scarfs around. I always like the Saturday link-up but think that Monday is better.

Terri, I don’t usually go for such colorful looks either but it’s a nice change to try every once in a while.

    • Rena

It’s a nice change from neutrals, don’t you agree? 😊

    • Rena

Pamela, I’m so glad to hear that you’re onboard with the link-up changing to Mondays.

    • Rena

Nancy, I’m also gravitating towards darker colors lately.

    • Rena

Michelle, the combination does have a bit of whimsy, doesn’t it?

Your rainbow looks lovely. I’ve become very colorful in the last year and enjoy experimenting with different color mixes. But I haven’t tried a rainbow yet!

    • Rena

Gail, you do a great job of using bold colors in your outfits.

Elaine, it’s not a look I would wear all the time but it’s a nice option to try every once in a while.

  3. I like the way the warm colors in this outfit complement each other. The loden, teal, orange, and red (purse) all work together as members of the autumn color family. The outfit looks like it’s comfortable and fun to wear.

Carol, this look is most certainly comfortable and only slightly outrageous.

  4. Rena,
It is fun to find color inspiration from all sorts of sources, my husband loves Thai food so maybe I’ll take a cue from their decor next time we go! I have finally purged many of my old work clothes. I haven’t retired but I work from home and have no need for all the clothes I loved to wear. It was hard to let them go but silly to keep them. Someone else will enjoy them now.
    Thanks for the link up!

Kellyann, isn’t interesting how inspiration can come from a variety of sources? As for work clothes, I had purged a lot of them when we moved 3 years ago and then more once I retired. And then so much has changed in that regard in the last two years that most of it would be no longer suitable anyway.

You’re most welcome, Imogen. I’m so glad that you regularly join the link-up. And thank you for the tip.

  5. I love color! I was working on my closet purge today. Many of the colors that worked for me pre-grey hair now no longer flatter me. But, I love combining different colors…unexpected color combinations especially.

Your outfit is wonderful! I especially like that cardigan!

Marsha, I’ve also found that the colors that work best with my hair now are not the same as before I stopped dying it. Now I lean more toward deeper tones and away from muted ones.

  6. I really like the green and teal together! 🙂 And the touch of orange from your jacket is perfect! I really need to wear orange and green more often! 🙂

    Thanks for the link up!

Hope that your week is off to a nice start 🙂

    • Rena

Mica, I’m glad to hear that you’re also a fan of the combination of green and teal.

  7. Amy Johnson

Oh I just love all the fun color in this outfit. Thanks for the party.

    • Rena

Laura, I think it’s the unexpected aspect that makes the color combo stand out.

  8. These colors are so wonderful together, Rena! I love that cardigan and coat and your sneakers! I don’t know how I keep missing your Saturday link up posts…I have been so off lately!

Shelbee, I’m glad that you like the look. I think that a lot of people are busy with other things on Saturdays so joining a link-up isn’t a high priority. Time will tell if my link-up does better on Mondays.
