It’s a “shopped my closet” bomber jacket that’s getting the Fresh Focus treatment for this 1st Saturday of the month post. I’ve even included a few throwback photos showing on it first appeared on the blog.

Initially, I’d thought to wear it with an LBD but then I happened upon this polka dot one as I was going through my closet. It hasn’t been worn much so this seemed like a great time to change that. Target shoppers may recognize the bomber jacket and the dress from different collections by WhoWhatWear. Based on the labels, the jacket was selling in Q2/2016 and the dress in Q4/2017. We didn’t take any photos of the dress alone but I can tell you it has fluttery short sleeves. It also has a tie belt but I opted to wear a faux leather one for this look instead.

I’ve styled the look with a couple of trending details that are great options for unpredictable weather as Winter starts to transition into Spring. First up is a sweater worn like a scarf. According to this recent article published by Vogue, several designers are currently showing sweaters draped over the shoulders, knotted around the body, and generally styled like handy little throws that you’d have at the ready if the temps got a bit chilly.

Besides wearing your chosen sweater tied around your waist, you might consider one of the three options shown below. You can simply toss it across your shoulders. Or tie it and wear it over one or the other shoulder. Or for the more adventurous, bring one of the arms of the sweater under yours and tie it in front of your chest.

Next up on the trending details list is the chunky loafer. I hadn’t figured out my footwear yet for this look when I came across this article on Refinery 29 the other day and I had a eureka moment. And since this was to be Winter-to-Spring transition outfit, I’ve taken the opportunity to share another “shoes and socks” look which was featured in last month’s Would You, Could You post. My loafers appeared in January’s Would You, Could You? Gray Sweatpants post and are one of my best Poshmark purchases.

Ready for the blast from the past I promised at the beginning of the post? Back before I’d decided to “ditch the dye”?These photos are from September of 2016 and were shown in my Up Down All-Around: Bomber Jacket post. At the time, I was showing it in Summer-to-Fall transition looks. I got a kick out of looking that the post again because it also showed a unique detail that I incorporated into one of the three looks. Can you guess what that detail is?

Don’t mind me. I’ll just sit here for a moment or two, enjoying the sunshine as I think of more options for bomber jackets. You never know what I might come up with.

  1. Hi Rena!
I hope you are having a great weekend, This bomber jacket is adorable! I have just one and it is lace from Chicos. You have shown it so many lovely ways. The two prints work very well together with the tiny polka dots and flowers.

Jess, I’m so pleased you liked the jacket and the look I put together for this post.

Some good styling tips. It’s nice to bring a new lease of life to items already in the closet. I’ve been focusing on accessories lately and bought a couple of scarves and belts.

  3. The bomber jacket and dress are so cute! As for the transition from winter to spring, it’s not that huge here in the Las Vegas Valley, and this winter has been milder than last winter. Basically, it’s a transition from long sleeves to short sleeves. I can count the times I wore a jacket on one hand.

My focus is to experiment with my current wardrobe. I have little I need to add to it.

There can be a lot of fun in experimenting with your wardrobe. Let the creative juices flow.

  4. What a lovely surprise to find myself featured here. Thank you very much Rena! That is a lovely bomber and the idea of wearing a sweater like that is lovely! Have a great Sunday!

Such a great combination of prints in this fun outfit, Rena! I really love your chunky leopard loafers. This is one of my favorite ways to wear loafers or oxfords…with a long dress or skirt and ankle socks. It is very 50’s and 60’s to me and I absolutely love that generation of fashion. Add a modern twist like a cool bomber jacket and it’s a perfectly winning outfit! I also really like the unique ways to style the sweater over your shoulders. Fun!

Thank you, Shelbee. You and I would have such fun hanging out together if we lived in the same town.

  6. I love this idea of restyling something from your earlier posts. For me, that means it’s a great piece with a lot of versatility. When I make something, I really don’t worry about if it goes with anything. It’s only after, that I start pulling older pieces out to see if they go with what I’ve sewn. In a way, I guess that is restyling older pieces. It’s nice to see polka dots too. Take care, Terri

It’s been my goal for blog posts to serve as inspirations and not to try to get the reader to buy something new.

  7. Love the bomber jacket, Rena! Funny what you said about tying sweaters over your shoulders as I’ve done the exact thing on my post this week—I did a style steal from Pinterest but I had no idea it was current lol!

I saw your post and it does appear that we embraced that same style (IMHO, you did it better).

I remember the sweater over the shoulders trend from my high school days! I love it when my clothes have a staying power in my closet. I , was just looking at some pics of a trip abroad 4 or so years and realizing I still had all of it. My focus this month is to take adventage of the mild weather to wear all of my light layers, preferably in fun new ways. Case in point today’s mustard kimono!

Sweater over the shoulders was huge when I was in high school as well (different decade, I’m sure). I like the look, regardless, but I’ve worried that it would look dated. However, what’s old is new again, right?

  9. Ooh, I love that your bomber jacket has pockets! I also did the sweater over the shoulders thing (back in the late 80s), but I find that too fussy for me these days. I saw that chunky loafers are back, but that is a pass for me – they just don’t work that well with my style, and I don’t like how they look on my feet.

I enjoyed seeing your older pics! Thanks for the link-party, Rena!

    • Rena

I’m glad you liked the older photos. It’s interesting seeing the comparison of my hair color. Sweater over the shoulders was big a decade earlier, too. And I rarely buy jackets that don’t have pockets as I see garments without them as a waste of material.

I am loving that fun floral bomber jacket! Your leopard loafers are super cute too!

  11. This bomber jacket is so stinking cute! I love that you included pictures of how you styled it in the past – I always appreciate seeing multiple ways to wear the same pieces.
Also, thank you so much for joining my linkup last week! I’m not sure why it was being finnicky for you, but hopefully it works better this week. I would love to have you join again, it’s live now!
Hope you have a great day. 🙂

    Miles of smiles,

Grace, you’re so sweet. Thank you for the compliments.

  12. I really like these shoes and socks together! They look a little preppy and the lighter color from your cardigan I feel ties them together. That floral bomber jacket is so cute, I used to have something similar and I’m sad I parted with it!

  13. That is a great jacket and it works well with the polka dot dress! It’s nice to see the other ways you’ve worn it too! 🙂
