Anyone else think that Fall transition posts should wait until … Fall? Perhaps it’s the heat of summer that makes the thought of donning sweaters and boots somewhat unbearable.

In observation of the first day of Fall, I’ve worked up seasonally appropriate style ideas for my recently showcased Summer dresses. One day to the next does not make for a full Fall transition temperature-wise. Overheating can be avoided by keeping legs bare and light to medium weight knits keep an outfit from looking too heavy.

Side by side, the swap-outs for my Fresh Focus: Ruffles dress are my fringe boots instead of sandals and a long cardigan instead of a denim jacket. In contrast to the dress, I opted for lighter colored footwear and topper as more fitting while temperatures taper off. No reason that a denim jacket wouldn’t also be good in the Fall but who can resist the coziness of a sweater?

My Pockets Of Time dress gets similar swap-outs for its Fall transition look. Walkable blue suede booties (again with bare legs) and versatile cardigan extend this dress’s wearability well into Fall.

Even though Fall has officially started, temps will likely still be Summerish in many parts for a few more weeks. This is especially true in Southern California, even in my coastal community. Because of this, I typically wait until early October before I start on switching around my closet stowing away my sandals and making my sweaters and boots more accessible. I’ll also be dusting off my favorite soup and stew recipes soon since these goodies seem so perfect for Fall.

  1. Beautiful fall outfits! Dresses are so perfect for the transitional weather and I adore that red dress of yours. You styled it so beautifully. California never gets the memo about cooling off until about late October so I agree with you and just wait until then to transition the wardrobe.

Rena, I love the way you have styled both dresses for summer and fall. Your fringed boots are so cool! And your hair, my friend, is looking magnificent! I love it this way! Thanks for linking.
