With today being the 4th Saturday of the month, the theme is Reclaim-Recycle-Reuse. These posts are intended to highlight the fashion options available through thrifting, rediscovery, and/or reimagining. But since I got myself into a little bind and didn’t have a post ready for last week’s 3rd Saturday of the month post on color, today’s look is a 2-for-1 in that I’m covering both themes.

Both my top and my pants fit into the category of Reclaim-Recycle-Reuse. However, it’s pants that I want to address under this theme. I can remember seeing these beauties not too long ago when they were being sold new in the well-known nationwide retailer most of us shop in. Back then I dismissed them for some reason that I cannot recall. But when I found them for $3 in a recent thrifting excursion, all reason was lost and I snapped them up.

They are a wonderful shade of blue and have a fabulous tone-on-tone tapestry type floral pattern. One day I’ll venture back to long pants but for now, my love affair with cropped ones is going strong.

As I mentioned before, this top also fits into the theme of the post because it’s also a resell item. I bought it recently on Poshmark (that’s the link to my Poshmark closet). This top was supposed to have been featured last week in a never written post under the theme of Color My World in which I’d planned to feature the color “olive”. I’ve found that with my now silver hair that stronger, darker colors are more flattering on me than muted, paler ones.

Since there is nearly the same blue in the peacock-like feather pattern in the top, I paired it with my new-to-me pants. Isn’t fabulous how fresh this color combination can be? In previous posts, I’ve also shown a similar shade of olive with black and red. In another post, you can see a version of it with teal.

And of course, there’s always time to scratch an adorable photo bomber behind the ears. The setting for these photos was the backyard of some dear friends of ours. In fact, Susan will be featured in December in the series I call A Woman I Know which publishes on 5th Saturdays. Next week is also a 5th Saturday and I’ve got a very special woman to tell you about in that upcoming post.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. My featured contributor from the last link up is Leelo from the blog Beauty By Miss L. This talented lady is a thirty-something years old with many years of blogging behind her. Leelo is from Estonia and writes her beauty/lifestyle/fashion blog in both Estonian and English.

Whether a previous owner has done a closet purge or her tastes have changed, I’m happy to give well deserving beauties a new home. What’s your opinion on thrift store and resell shopping?  Are you a seasoned thrifter? Or does the idea of wearing someone else’s old clothes give you the heebie-jeebies?  Is it a just a passing trend for those who can afford more or is it a smart way to live “greener” and reduce one’s carbon footprint?  What are the qualities you consider whether a garment is worthy of being added to your wardrobe?

Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget to add a post or two to the link up.

  1. Thrifting is my favorite form of shopping. Whenever, my hubby and I travel we look for thrift stores to visit. It’s my form of treasure hunting. Love those pants, Rena and olive is fast becoming one of my favorites as well. I’m letting my gray grown out, so I agree the darker and bolder colors seem to just look better. – Amy

Amy, I’m glad to hear that you’re also on the move to silver. Thrifting is a treasure and bargain hunt wrapped into one fun adventure.

  2. I’ve been loving the thrifting now. Either I notice these places more now, or there are a ton more in our area!! It’s fabulous in my opinion!!

  3. I enjoy thrifting when traveling in the caravan to new places. My silver hair is growing a little longer and I enjoy the ‘straight’ feeling after years of ‘curly’ 🙂 Stronger colours for me now too.

  4. Charity shops, as we call them here, give me a chance to try something different and also to fill the gaps between expensive buys. I used to worry that people would find out my guilty secret, but now everyone does it and I get complimented on clever buys. Love your blog BTW

Mary, thank you for the blog love. And I agree with you, it is wonderful to get complimented for clever buys especially when they’re such bargains.

  5. I started a few months ago and now I am hooked! Hope to see you on my Fancy Friday linkup party!

    • Rena

Sometimes I’d rather shop resale then retail. I’ll be sure to look for your link up this Friday, Nancy.

Thank you, Shelbee. I hesitated a moment or two before I added that last photo but I just decided to go with it.

  6. I’ve had a few good finds this year in the charity shops and I’ve got some fantastic retro 70’s items from mums loft! Thanks for hosting Rena. That hair of yours looks amazing! xx

Laurie, to me a good resale find can be more thrilling than buying a retail item that a lot of others are buying.

  7. Amy Johnson

What cute pictures of you! And what great finds! Love those pants. I’m really not much of a thrift store shopper, although I love shopping clearance racks.

    • Rena

I’m glad you like the photos. And all shopping is fun, don’t you agree Amy?

  8. Susan Marinelli

I adore this outfit Nancy, and it looks great on you. I’ve been growing out my gray for years, but it’s not the wonderful color yours is. Agreed, stronger colors for me too, but I do love the blush color, and need some blush sneakers.

Susan, thank you. How lovely to hear that you’re also a silver sister.

I wish the brocade in you pants showed up a bit better in the photos. I love that type of subtle , tone on tone print. The details in this fun top are great and it looks so cute with the pants. You hit the throttling jackpot on both items. I LOVE thrifting but it’s taken me some time to zero in on the best consignment shops here in Rapid City.

It’s really nice to see you relaxing and having fun at late summer gatherings. The last picture of you is really nice Rena. There’s a lot of joy in your eyes. Are you starting to feel more physically fit now? You’ve had some major challenges in the last couple of years and you’re looking so happy now. Hurdles jumped, braver and stronger Rena?

  10. Fantastic look on You and so good to see the laughter. Enjoy October. . .

  11. I have been living in Barcelona Spain since the early 2000s and then, the only second hand shops available, were selling the clothing really expensive, because the stores were considering it ¨vintage¨. The last few years with the economic crisis, I see many new stores that sell second hand, in normal prices. At least, something good came out of the crisis! I love reusing old clothing especially If there is a history behind it!
