They say that “time flies when you’re having fun” but it also seems to take flight when your not.  Like this past week, for instance. Here it is now Saturday and I’m hurriedly putting together this post because I had no time to work on it during the week. There’s a huge project with a deadline fast approaching at my day job so I’ve been putting in 12 hour days to get it finished. I’ll be going into the office tomorrow to put in more hours to get it done on time.

There are no affiliate links in this post, just a bit of babbling about the passing of time, a few pictures of an outfit I put together to wear to a party The Husband and I went to last week, and the weekly link up. Once things at work settle down, I can resume my usual blogging routine.

In the last few weeks, the notion of “flight of time” has been rattling around in my brain. The 18th birthday of my youngest niece, the 60th birthday of a long time friend, and the 3rd anniversary of the passing of my father are all reminders of the passing of time. How is it that events that happened years ago can also feel like they just happened yesterday?

You know from my last 17 Challenges In ’17 update that I’ve put myself in a time-out from shopping for the time being so what you see in this outfit is a remix of items you’ve seen before on the blog with the exception of the boots. As spectacular as they are, they’re a prime example of why I’m in a shopping time-out. The heel is a little too high for comfort (so they are more “sitting shoes”) and I really didn’t need yet another pair of black boots but I bought them anyway. Fine, whatever.

The denim jacket was thrifting find from sometime last year and it first showed up on the blog last June in Up Down All-Around 2-For-1 Skirt. The lace top I’ve had for a few years and appeared in Daytime Wedding in the Fall and A Wedding In Winter. Worn here as a duster, I shared three other looks for this dress in In Real Life: East Coast Travels and wore it twice during the trip.

And the high-low hem skirt makes yet another appearance on the blog. I don’t know why it took me so long to embrace the potential of this skirt (also see here, here, and here) and I’m fascinated by the play of shapes I can create with it. Being that it’s winter, I appreciate the warmth this extra layer adds to the outfit, as well as the visual slimming its length adds to the silhouette.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. My featured contributor from last week’s post is Gail, the creative inspiration behind Is This Mutton?. This was Gail’s first post with the link up (love the greenery that she’s sporting) and she says in her bio that “my mantra is, if you feel confident and love the outfit, go for it! For me, I find ways of adapting the outfit so that it is less frightening”. This is what I try to do as well. I’m so pleased that Kallie found my blog and joined my link up so that I could find hers, too.

What memories are brought to mind by your clothes? Do you remember an event or do you remember a feeling? Have you ever not worn an item (or discarded it) because of a bad memory associated with it? Or have you ever worn item in an attempt to rid it of any previous negative associations? More importantly, just where is time in such a hurry to go?

Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin, stumble … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget to add a post or two to the link up.

Since the theme is real life this week, Rena—I included my first men’s fashion post with my husband as the model!! I figured if I have to be in front of the camera, why can’t he??
I do love the hi/low skirt—it is amazing how layering it can add so much to an outfit!!

Rena, I love these layers. The colors, the silhouette, the shorter denim jacket over the duster. And those boots are fabulous. Although, I could never walk on them either! I spent the entire day today organizing my closet (what a mess!), but I did find the sweater and shoes that I wore on my first date with the husband. (I still have the jeans I wore as well, but they are in a storage bin as they are about 3 sizes too small!) The sweater and shoes I do sometimes pull out and wear. So those particular pieces definitely hold memories for me. Because I need more reasons to NOT get rid of clothes! Ha! Good luck with your work project.

  3. Those booties are fabulous! And I still love that high low hem skirt! I never worn mine with a long cardigan. That s a great styling!

  4. I LOVE your sitting boots! They are so cool, I think they are worth it! 🙂 And great layered look!

I hope things slow down soon at work!

    Thanks for the link up!

  5. I am really enjoying the mix of layers, lengths, and textures this look provides! Those boots are pretty incredible, so I can see why you purchased them. The last thing on earth I need is another pair of boots, or shoes, but they keep finding their way into my cart.

  7. Fabulous look and those booties say it all. In my closet the “sit down shoes” are just sitting. . .I will be back to read more.
