With Flag Day earlier this week and the 4th of July coming soon, I tapped into my patriotic spirit for inspiration when selecting red/white/blue as my color combo for this post. In the same way that a green item might be bought and worn only on St Patrick’s, it can be challenging to wear red/white/blue without invoking thoughts of the flag or a national holiday.
Jacket – no label, thrifted (similar look, longer, oversized option)
Top – Women’s World Unity (exact, another option)
Jeans – thrifted (pricier option, budget option)
Shoes – Audrey Brooke, old (similar look, another option)
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. When I see a red/white/blue combination, to me it feels warm and homespun, all-American (even though there are other countries with the same colors on their flag). I think of baseball, picnics, and Main Street parades. These are the colors of summer.
Right now, you can’t walk into any of the well-known nationwide retailers without being just about slapped in the face with red/white/blue clothing, accessories, and decor items. So I succumbed to the merchandising and bought this tie-dyed flag-inspired top. Fine, whatever.
Searching through my closet for the rest of the outfit, an all-American look calls for denim so grabbing these slightly distressed skinny jeans (“don’t you have any jeans without holes” said The Husband) was a natural choice. Next, I thought I might try a jacket in a lighter shade for a denim-on-denim look but it didn’t seem to highlight the top, as well as my white jacket, does. With the red shoes, I’ve repeated the red/white/blue combo and added some extra WOW to the look. I kept this outfit on after these photos were taken as The Husband and I headed out to dinner but I did change into shoes that would be more comfortable for strolling through a local mall.

I admit, that I think about that too, when the red, white & blue comes out! Kinda like with black & orange–I think Halloween!
But I think you’ve done a tremendous job of looking very stylish—not costumey at all!!

VERY cute look Rena! The tie die in the top is so fun and is a bit reminiscent of a firework! The jacket and THE SHOES!! really elevate the entire outfit. ( Despite what your husband thinks about holes in your jeans). 🙂 I wore distressed jeans to a teacher workshop day before I was retired from teaching and when the distressed look was pretty new. My principal came over and inquired, ” don’t I pay you enough?”
Does your workplace do casual Friday?? This would be a perfect outfit for that and a lot of other activities as well. You look great Rena!

Rena, I love how you have been elevating the level of sass in your outfits lately! Those shoes are magnificent and so edgy! I always love the red, white, and blue combination any time of year. And I will wear green any day as well. But I am with Jodie in that orange and black is too Halloweeny for me just as green and red never works either without looking like a Christmas elf. I also have issues with black and yellow for some reason…it feels too much like a bumblebee or a construction zone or something! But red, white, and blue is always a winning combination in my book. You look fabulous, my friend!

Rena, this outfit looks great! I have a few white jackets in my closet and its a great staple! Love it with the colorful tee. I received some jewelry from a co in red white and blue and do think patriotic, but hey, I think it looks great for anytime. Those shoes are fab 🙂

You’ve certainly transcended any possible reference to Labour Day, Rena, this outfit could turn heads any day of the year. It’s bold and bright with visual interest and kickass heels. Personally, I just realised I use colour to either hide myself or not hide myself. Before shedding those 83lbs, I was always in black. Period. These days, I’m back to wearing colours and prints so suffice to say, the use of colour (or lack thereof) is akin to having a security blanket for me 🙂
