As soon as I spied this fabulous ruffle-edged skirt I knew it was destined to be a wardrobe favorite. The mixed boho-ish prints, mock wrap look with ruffle, and side-seam pockets checked off the boxes for style, detail, and function. And for the price, who would pass it up? Not me!

Few of the items in my closet are one trick ponies and this skirt is no exception. The darker colors make it serious enough for work, the ruffle is quite playful, and high-low hem adds a bit of sexiness. Like with other “I gotta have it” items, I immediately put together three looks and wore it at least three times within the first two weeks I bought it.

Dressed Up For Work

In Up Down All-Around, I usually share my work look first so that is what you see below.   I paired the skirt with this linen look jacket to add a little structure to the look. Underneath, I’m wearing a swing style creamy colored top that has an eyelet detail near the neckline. My strappy black wedge sandals complete the outfit.

Jacket – Old Navy, thrifted (very similar, lots of sizes and colors)
Top – American Eagle Outfitters, old (similar look, another option)
Skirt – Knox Rose (very similar, different color)
Shoes – Nine West (exact, but limited sizes, another option)

Dressed For Play

My idea of play is getting a pedicure (hence the flip flops) and then going to friends’ home for a lovely dinner eaten al fresco. These dear friends have a gorgeous home and dinner with them was a delight. I’m not sure why I didn’t take a few pictures of the backyard to share but I’m sure we’ll be back there again soon to take other photos.

With this look, I’ve flipped the black and cream pairing.  A loose fitting black tee and a cream cardigan for when the temps drop in the evening helps to showcase the mixed patterns and cross body ruffle of the skirt. I gathered up some of the fabric of my tee near my left hip and used a small rubber band wrapped around it to create a little ruching to make my top a bit more figure hugging.

I rarely if ever wear flip-flops unless I’m within about 100 feet of a body of water or I’ve gotten a pedicure within the past four hours. In fact, I think that should be a fashion rule, for men and women alike. Since I had a very fresh pedicure and because of the casualness of the dinner, I didn’t switch to a different pair of shoes so I could show the skirt in a more playful spin.

Dressed For Fun

As I said in the introduction, it was the print mix and the mock wrap look accented with a ruffle that really sparked my interest so in this look I played up those elements.  Another simple looser fitting tee, a chunky knit sweater, and my cutout leather cork-wedge sandals build on the boho vibe.  Like with my other tee, I’ve gathered and tied up some of the fabric at my left hip to draw in the silhouette in the middle.

Let’s Wrap This Up

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. My featured contributor from last week’s floral themed link up is Kelsey from A Cup Of Tea With Kelsey. The bold and cheerful print of her dress is lovely and Kelsey shows how even her husband has embraced florals and is wearing them for Spring.

These “3 looks” posts are my favorite to do because I rarely buy something without thinking about the variety of ways and occasions I will wear it. Whether it’s an investment piece or a fast-fashion item, I think that personal style is about how you mix it into your current wardrobe and adapt it to your lifestyle. There are more ideas for this skirt swirling in the gray matter so don’t be surprised if you see it in another post sometime soon.

Let’s connect! Subscribe, tweet, follow, friend, love, pin, stumble … all options are available and waiting for you. I look forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget to add a post or two to the link up.

I’m a huge fan of making sure an item can be worn many ways!! And you do a great job of that with this skirt, Rena!
I love how this skirt almost looks different colors depending on the lighting, too!!

Thank you, Jodie. We’d have such fun shopping together, don’t you think?

You’ve nicely illustrated the versatility of this cute skirt Rena. Simple changes of shoes, tops , jewelry and attitude and you’re ready for work or pleasure, I love the skirt’s pretty, Knox Rose, boho vibe and have snapped up a couple of items in that brand myself, I like the mix of fabrics they use often in their clothing. This is a skirt you’ll be wearing year round ( and with boots!) there in California!

Jude, I’m so looking forward to pairing the skirt with boots. You may see me sporting such an outfit in Seattle this Fall.

  3. I like when my clothes works for me to its full capacity and I think your new skirt is doing a great job or should I say you did a great job, Rena by putting these three different but all lovely looks together. It was fun to read how you use the rubber band to make your top looks slimmer, great tip

  4. This skirt is so darling, Rena! And I am loving all 3 ways you have styled it. Your cork wedges are amazing, too! I hear you on the flip flops, too. I am not a big fan of them except for pedicure day and even then I usually wear a pretty leather thong sandal as opposed to a rubber flip flop! I reserve flip flops for right inside the door to run out to the garage for something! Ha. I am a such shoe snob. Thanks for the link up and have a fabulous weekend.

  6. I do love to walk on flip flops, on vacation, do I love the fun look. But it’s a great skirt and it works all the ways.

  7. I love that pretty skirt. The print makes it so versatile, as you have shown from your three different combinations. I think all three work beautifully with the skirt. The colors also make it look like it would be wearable into fall with some tights and boots. Great post, Rena. – Amy
