Wine and roses seemed like an appropriate title for this post (considering the floral print skirt) and it pays homage to a certain upcoming “holiday”. I mean, how many advertisements have you seen or heard recently about buying flowers and other assorted gifts for Valentine’s Day? The stores are filled with candy and heart festooned trinkets and window displays are showing styles ranging from sweet to rockin’.
Sweater – Lauren Conrad (pretty option, another choice)
Skirt – thrifted (option 1, option 2)
Shoes – Jessica Simpson, old (option with t-strap, option with block heel)
Purse – Hillard & Hanson, old (similar, pricier option)
My own style is somewhere in between. If I were to be taken out to celebrate Valentine’s Day (hint, hint) then this a “shopped from my closet” look I might wear. I adore deep, rich hues like wine and it’s a color close enough to the pink/red spectrum that it can be associated with love.
Powers The Flower was the original theme for my link up so there’s no doubt about my love for floral prints. This was one of the topics that Jess at Elegantly Dressed and Stylish covered in her recent Spotlight On feature on me. At one time in my life, my preferred florals may have been the sweet, small type patterns that bring to mind prairie dresses and granny’s curtains. Nowadays, I find myself gravitating to bolder and more abstract prints.
This skirt was a thrifting find, but the tags had been cut out so I can’t tell you who it is made by. It was the color that caught my eye first and then when I realized that the pattern was floral, I was sold. The fabric has a bit of stretch that it’s very comfortable to wear and is thick enough that it skims over the lumps and has “good hang”. Even though it’s not quite the same shade, the skirt pairs well with this bell sleeved sweater I bought last October. With a pair of tall black boots and a black cardigan, this skirt is part of an easy and classic look for work, too.
Final details of the outfit are the shoes and the purse, both of which I’ve had for years. I tend to think of the pumps as my “ruby red slippers” and bring them out of hiding when I really want to add an extra pop to my look. The purse has a vintage look and is one of my favorite special occasion bags that I like to put into service when I get dressed up.
