Fall florals tend towards deeper and richer colors than the florals we usually see in Spring and Summer which is probably why I like them so much. With Fall colors, florals have more weight and, in my opinion, work better for professional and/or dress up attire. These florals are a good bridge from the warmer end of summer weather to cooler temps of autumn and winter.

In my last Wednesday’s Whatevers I mentioned an upcoming trip with my sister and daughter to Las Vegas. Well, it’s nearly 3am PDT and I’m in the hotel room after a 6 1/2 hour drive (normal drive time is about 4 hours) finishing this post because time got away from me during the week. Fine, whatever … I’m in Las Vegas with my most favorite people so I shouldn’t be complaining and I’m not, just explaining why this post might seem a little on the thin side in terms of content.

The fall floral item in this outfit is my top. Its style is commonly referred to as halter although I always thought a halter top to be backless which this is not. I know that some women shy away from tops that emphasize their shoulders but mine are narrow so I think that this style helps to offset that and draws the eye away from my bustline. There was no hesitation in my mind when I first saw this top at a Loft Outlet store back in August. The colors are gorgeous and the miniature print is perfect for work or play.

Top – Loft Outlet, not available on-line (similar look, another option); Sweater – American Eagle, thrifted (similar look, another option); Necklace – J Jill, old (option)

To keep the look from being too dark, I paired the top with white jeans (can we be over the controversy of white after Labor Day and white denim in cooler weather?) worn with a rolled cuff to better show off my new tan booties and a slouchy gray sweater.

Since the weather in SoCal is still quite warm in early October, boots and a heavy sweater are not always a reasonable fashion option so I can achieve a similar look with a lighter cardigan and a pair of wedge sandals.

Now, onto the Fine-Whatever link up for this week. My featured contributor from .last week’s In Real Life link up is Elise from Sparkle And Slippers. I’m delighted to feature Elise this week as she is a new poster with the Fine-Whatever link up and she just recently celebrated her 40th birthday. In her post, Elise shares some great life’s lessons learnt as she reflects on her feelings at turning 40.

Are you among those that fear floral and believe that it’s an unfashionable choice? Or do you welcome the variety of patterns and palettes can add to your style? Fashion wise, how are you handling the transition from summer into fall?

Melissa, florals should always be a trend. Thanks for the thumbs up on the white jeans.

  2. Hi Rena!
I love the halter, it is a such a pretty shade with the floral print too. I need to try and style my white jeans as I do love them paired with browns, tans, so many colors. Your boots look fabulous with this outifit . I am not a big fan of this transitional period. I would rather it get chillier so I could bring out the tweed jackets, faux fur! However, I am trying to add a thin layer or dress in fall colors even when the weather isnt quite there yet.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

Jess, I’m also looking forward to the truly cold weather when my tweed jackets and heavier sweaters will be seasonally appropriate. I’m glad you like the style and color of my floral top. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Your top is such a fabulous fall floral! I love that you paired it with white denim; it looks great! And, yes, I don’t think white after Labor Day should even be a topic anymore… The brown booties are absolutely fabulous and look fantastic with the white pants.

I also love that you showed the look with sandals and a light cardigan to make it “California fall” friendly… 🙂

Have the best time in Vegas!!!

Beautiful top for fall! Your white jeans and tan booties compliment the dark floral wonderfully. I am not a floral fan overall for myself, but I do enjoy the darker varieties seen in cooler weather and am looking forward to wearing a couple of recent finds. Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you, Jennie. I do so like how the outfit turned out with the white jeans instead of a darker color.
